I think that because the Korean War came in the heels of Big Daddy WWII that many people saw it as kind of a Grenada policing action, which was far from the truth. The fact is that the Korean War was a very bloody, terrible conflict. Consider that America lost almost as many troops there in 3 short years as we lost in Vietnam in over 10 years. Often when you meet Korean War veterans you’ll notice that they are missing the ends of their fingers due to frostbite caused by the bitter cold they endured there. There are stories of guys running around barefoot in the ice because they were awakened to being overun by the enemy while still in their sleeping bags. They had a choice: take the time to put on your boots and get bayonetted or shot– or run like hell in barefeet on the ice.
